How to handle inappropriate posts like racist crap...
DON'T post in the thread, complaining or attacking the person.
That just bumps it to the top, and gives them some satisfaction.
Simply hit the "report" button, and leave it at that. Hopefully it'll fall a few spots, maybe off the page, and the mods will get to it pretty quickly.

I did exactly that. Unfortunately a lot of outraged members posted their reactions which, while understandable, did indeed keep the racist crap bumped up to the top of the pile.
Exactly as the poster intended.
Incidently, Epi; I also PM'd a mod - is that not the done thing in these cases?
[edit] It's still there?
[edit2] no, thank god

It's better to report the post. Under the poster's name there is a little red triangle icon with a ! in it. Click that and give reason to why you are reporting the post as bad. That is usually better than to PM a specific mod as he/she may not be online to read your PM.

The report button usually works like a charm. I've used it in the past and the offending post is normally gone within minutes. It is early in some parts of the GW world however and the Mods do have to sleep sometime.

Then why have mods that are only available at some point of the day? They need more over a range of a time zones.
ADDED: Its gone now, some mod must have come online and got to it... good good.

Yes, the report button works. We thank you for using it.
In the future, if you feel that your complaint is not being handled quickly or effectively enough, please PM an admin. But also keep in mind, some things take a little time to take care of and we are working as fast as we can.
EDIT: I just checked my email... yikes.

Indeed. It sometimes just takes a little while, because each mod has specified sections to look after, as nobody could possibly keep an eye on the whole of Guru solo... Apart from Inde of course.
Rest assured the poster in question has been disposed of.

My emails always open in the background, so I get clearly notified when some person has reported some bad post
+ for you who don't know, the report post button is the "!" located under the posters name.

Glad to hear that. Thank you mods, for the great job you do here. (I am admin and chief mod for my guilds rather small web site, so I appreciate the job you all do)

Guilty as charged
I just got so pissed when I saw it that I didn´t think before posting. I did report it though, and in the future when I see threads like that, I´ll try to keep cool.

I am glad somebody is bringing this topic up, because I personally have been the object of racist language in-game a great deal, due to the fact that I play all black women. It has gotten to the point that I have switched to European(and International) servers to avoid this kind of crap.
In the past, I have been an admin for one of the most popular(10,000 players/month) Desert Combat(BF1942 mod) servers on-line, DCBB El Al 24/7. I dealt with this kind of thing in one way: instant ban, no second chances.

I'm not sure how you handled the banment (or however you refer to it) but I think you should explain to the offender why they are being banned. In my idealistic mind, I would hope that they could learn something from the experience and nullify the racist tendencies within.
